The Shanghai Guild serves as a forum for knitters of all levels and nationalities to come together, meet new friends, learn new skills, share expertise, and make something special to donate to charity. We supply yarn and the necessary tools to anyone interested in donating their items to local good causes. And of course you may work on projects for your friends and families -- even for yourself. This is an informal Guild, so you don’t need to commit to coming every week nor should you worry that your work is not ‘perfect’. Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where everyone can sit back, have fun and enjoy the process of knitting. Along the way, we've made friends and branched out into other remarkable activities. You never know where knitting will lead you! Our meeting time is most Thursday afternoons, 1:00-4:00 p.m., at the home of Kathy Pauli, Jian Guo Xi Lu, Lane 56, House 17 (near the intersection with Ruijin Er Lu, and very convenient to Line 9's Dapuqiao Lu subway stop). Donations of yarn are welcome! No amount is too small; it will provide texture and interest to the blankets we are currently knitting. Please join us any time to knit or, if you need a special gift, consider our beautiful stuffed toys, blankets, scarves, sweaters, hats, and gloves! OUR WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY Since it was founded in 2004 by Sue Ferry as the Shanghai Patchwork and Knitting Guild, the Guild has sought to assist those in need both within Shanghai and in the provinces beyond it. The Guild has formed a series of relationships with local charities in an effort to assist them in the valuable work they do. Click on "Charities We Support" on the left for a brief description of the groups we assist and the ways in which we do so. The Shanghai Guild will meet this Thursday, June 9, for the last time before summer break. Come stock up on yarn for your summer projects and wish each other safe and happy summer travels! I've just put up some new photos of kids who've received our blankets through the Josephine Charles Foundation and Heart to Heart Shanghai. Do take a look! Thanks to Carlyn, you can join us now on Ravelry. (For those who don't know, Ravelry is a networking site for knitters and crocheters. Membership is free. (And it's a networking site that's not blocked in China, at least not yet.) The Shanghai Guild is now a group with its own page, where members can show photos of what they make and share other information. The Guild would welcome donations of yarn -- all yarn, any yarn. Keep us in mind as you do your spring cleaning or see yarn on sale right now in the shops throughout the city. Thank you! |
