WELCOME!

The Shanghai Guild serves as a forum for knitters of all levels and nationalities to come together, meet new friends, learn new skills, share expertise, and make something special to donate to charity. We supply yarn and the necessary tools to anyone interested in donating their items to local good causes. And of course you may work on projects for your friends and families -- even for yourself.

This is an informal Guild, so you don’t need to commit to coming every week nor should you worry that your work is not ‘perfect’. Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where everyone can sit back, have fun and enjoy the process of knitting. Along the way, we've made friends and branched out into other remarkable activities. You never know where knitting will lead you!

Our meeting time is most Thursday afternoons, 1:00-4:00 p.m., at the home of Kathy Pauli, Jian Guo Xi Lu, Lane 56, House 17.

Donations of yarn are welcome! No amount is too small; it will provide texture and interest to the blankets we are currently knitting.

Please join us any time to knit or, if you need a special gift, consider our beautiful stuffed toys, blankets, scarves, sweaters, hats, and gloves!

OUR WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY

Since it was founded in 2004 by Sue Ferry as the Shanghai Patchwork and Knitting Guild, the Guild has sought to assist those in need both within Shanghai and in the provinces beyond it. The Guild has formed a series of relationships with local charities in an effort to assist them in the valuable work they do. Click on "Charities We Support" on the left for a brief description of the groups we assist and the ways in which we do so. If you know of an institution or group in need in China whom you think we could help, please contact the Guild at info@shanghaiguild.com.

WATCH THIS SPACE FOR NEWS!

Next week (on Thursday, March 11), weather permitting, we'll take a field trip to the Ningdu Lu yarn market in lieu of knitting at my house. If you would like to come, please let me know. We'll have cars enough for everybody and will leave my house around 12:00. (Plan to eat lunch early and/or bring a snack, as we won't eat at the market.) If it's pouring rain, we'll postpone and knit as usual at my house. If you're not sure, please check back here!

Check out the new photos! Louise Charles sent some photos of some very gorgeous grannies in Happiness Village in Sichuan receiving blankets made by the Guild and Hearts to Hands. I've added a few other recent shots of interest as well. (Click oh "Photos/Events" on the left, then "February 2010 Guild Photos" to see. And if you click on the set to the right, you can see shots of lots of most of our blankets to date.) Thanks Louise, and thanks square and blanket makers worldwide!

A very big hug and thanks to Bonnie Brady and her Kentucky knitters, and to Dianne Elmsley in New Zealand and her thoughtful friend Sharon Frasier, for remembering us in Shanghai and sending along their beautiful knitted goods for us to distribute in China!I've just received two new deliveries.
