WELCOME!

The Shanghai Guild serves as a forum for knitters of all levels and nationalities to come together, meet new friends, learn new skills, share expertise, and make something special to donate to charity. We supply yarn and the necessary tools to anyone interested in donating their items to local good causes. And of course you may work on projects for your friends and families -- even for yourself.

This is an informal Guild, so you don’t need to commit to coming every week nor should you worry that your work is not ‘perfect’. Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where everyone can sit back, have fun and enjoy the process of knitting. Along the way, we've made friends and branched out into other remarkable activities. You never know where knitting will lead you!

Our meeting time is most Thursday afternoons, 1:00-4:00 p.m., at the home of Kathy Pauli, Jian Guo Xi Lu, Lane 56, House 17.

Donations of yarn are welcome! No amount is too small; it will provide texture and interest to the blankets we are currently knitting.

Please join us any time to knit or, if you need a special gift, consider our beautiful stuffed toys, blankets, scarves, sweaters, hats, and gloves!

OUR WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY

Since it was founded in 2004 by Sue Ferry as the Shanghai Patchwork and Knitting Guild, the Guild has sought to assist those in need both within Shanghai and in the provinces beyond it. The Guild has formed a series of relationships with local charities in an effort to assist them in the valuable work they do. Click on "Charities We Support" on the left for a brief description of the groups we assist and the ways in which we do so. If you know of an institution or group in need in China whom you think we could help, please contact the Guild at info@shanghaiguild.com.

WATCH THIS SPACE FOR NEWS!

The Shanghai Guild is officially on summer vacation! Many thanks to all of you for your camaraderie and generosity this spring. I can't believe how productive you have all been! Even though I will be away, Wang ayi will be at my house, along with various of my family members and the knitting room can be available if you would like to pick up squares to assemble a blanket or need supplies for another project. Please call first before coming to make sure that someone can give you access. Also, members are welcome to host the Guild while I am away this summer. If you would like to do so, please let me know and I will be glad to send out details in a group email. See you in September!

We have been asked by Mifan Mamas to knit gloves (perhaps mittens will also do) for a group of kindergartners (ages 3 - 5). Anyone so inclined, please take note! We are also hoping to help Heart to Heart by knitting outfits for the bears that they sell as a fund-raiser. Creative and interesting bear apparel, especially in bright colors and fuzzy yarns, are be most welcome. I've posted (under Patterns) the basic cardigan pattern that works for their bears. If you'd like to borrow a naked bear to outfit, please contact me to pick one up.
